Editorial Summary
(from candidate's website) Husband. Father. Civic volunteer. Former City Councilman and Vice Mayor. Gubernatorial appointee. Bank president. Since graduating from First Colonial High School in 1972, Will Sessoms has dedicated himself to being the best family man, professional and civic servant he can be. Earning a business degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1976, Will married Beverly Martin and took a job at First and Merchants National Bank. It didn’t take him long to take a pro-active role in his hometown of Virginia Beach. In 1977, Will became an active member of the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad, the first of more than 25 civic organizations he would join and lead over the next 30 years. By 2006, Will was named Virginia Beach First Citizen in 2006 – well-earned recognition for his long history of civic commitment, including 14 years as an at-large City Councilman, and 10 years as vice mayor. Will left City Council in 2002 to focus on his career, but he remained active on several boards and panels that focus on preparing Virginia Beach and the surrounding region for the future. Today, Will is President of TowneBank, and holds leadership roles on 11 high-profile civic organizations. He serves as director on several boards, including the Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad Foundation, the Virginia Beach Central Business District Association, Virginia Aquarium, and Virginia Beach Vision, and Eastern Virginia Medical School to name a few. Will and Bev are the proud parents of three daughters – Mollie, Kate and Anne Douglas.
