(from candidate's website) Lt. Governor Bev Perdue grew up in the coal mining mountains of Southwest Virginia and has lived most of her adult life in New Bern, North Carolina. Bev has been a leader in raising teacher salaries, increasing technology in schools, and is working to make sure that more of our students can afford to go to college, community college, or vocational school to develop the skills needed to work in the 21st century. As Senate Appropriations Chair, Bev led passage of the landmark CHIPs program to start coverage of uninsured children, and as Chair of the Health and Wellness Trust Fund, Lt. Governor Perdue led the successful creation of a prescription drug program for seniors that NC AARP called the best in the nation. She is now breaking new ground in pushing for universal coverage of children and expanded coverage for uninsured families, more affordable private insurance for middle class families, and more preventive health care for everybody. Additionally, Bev spearheaded North Carolina’s successful response in keeping the federal government from closing our military bases, and she is currently leading efforts to develop a defense and homeland security industry for North Carolina. Prior to running for office, Bev worked as a public school teacher, as director of geriatric services at a community hospital, and earned a Ph.D. in Education Administration. Bev is married to Bob Eaves and she is the proud mother of two sons, Garrett and his wife April and Emmett. She’s also grandmother to Amelia and mom to two dogs including the state’s #2 dog Dosie and Zipper. Bob is the proud father of Charlotte and her husband Doug, Robert and his wife Michelle, and has four grandchildren – Bennett, Jake, Rachel and Sarah.
